On this site you obtain comprehensive original information of the German Reich. May they be a small contribution to the vast number of articles, films, audio files and other documents of the Internet contributing to the mental liberation of Germany.

The presented maps originate from an atlas of 1912/1913 and are publicized primarily at the Internet Archive, on www.archive.org, directly and 100 % royaltee-free downloadable. Follow the listed hyperlink for calling up the respective map.

Each document is presented in four versions, each with 300 dpi resolution: As JPEG file (highest JPEG quality level), as PNG file, as GIF file, as well as unedited original raw scan file in the TIFF format.

The German title of the map source, “Atlas für hö­he­re Lehranstalten”, may be trans­lated as Atlas for Establishements of Higher Education or, more literal, as Atlas for institutions of High­er Edu­ca­tion:

The “Sek­tion Karls­ru­he der Ge­sell­schaft für Kar­to­gra­phie e.V.” (“Section Karlsruhe of the Car­to­graph­ic Society e.V. [e.V. = registered so­ci­ety/association], umbrella organization: DGfK) of­fers, in the context of a colloquium report of Hans Kern on a lecture of Tho­mas Hal­ler (Mann­heim), information on the publisher, on the authors Carl Lo­reck and Al­bert Win­ter as well as on this atlas series. „Wi­ki­source“ offers two articles on the founders of Pi­lo­ty and Löh­le, within the bibliographic reference book “All­ge­mei­ne Deut­sche Bi­og­ra­phie”: “ADB: Pi­lo­ty, Fer­di­nand (Li­tho­graph)” and “ADB: Löh­le, Jo­seph”. At the German Wikipedia is an article available on “Fer­di­nand Pi­lo­ty”, basing on a text of the “Mey­ers Kon­ver­sa­ti­ons-Le­xi­kon”.

The title “At­las für Hö­he­re Lehr­an­stal­ten&ldrquo; points to the amount of information. The knowledge communicated in atlases for the middle school, for the Volksschule, for the primary school, as well as knowl­edge contained in atlases for children, is as precious: References to freely accessible map ma­te­ri­al in the Internet are highly appreciated. Long, a link list on such sources will be publicized.

GEI digital also offers this text book (title page, complete PDF file top right), the resolution there is 100 dpi.

All maps of the presented atlases (edition A and edition B) were publicized before 1915 and are free of copyright, in the meanwhile. All facsimiles are as well free of any copyright and 100 % freely usable, for commercial and non commercial purposes.

You are free to make own modifications of the files and raw files. You do not need to release these own versions of you, and you can, for example, provide them with the name of your website. In the source citation, modified files have to be differentiated from original files. The combining of single maps with legends resp. with translated legends, the combination of different maps to an entire new map, image optimization measures, versions with or without page numbers, the adding of margins, the selection of map excerpts, as well as comparable simple editing steps can be made by everyone out of the raw files; these design ideas are not protected by copyright.

The principal publication as book facsimile (ebook, printed book, video compilation and others, among also such data carrier which base on future technologies [holography media etc.], as well as the publication as partial or complete map compilation resp. collection (printed or as DVD etc.) also cannot claimed as exclusive copyrighted product: Your respective manifestation and presentation of the book facsimile resp. map selection and compilation naturally is your copyrighted product, provided there are enough original design elements. The use of the maps does not impair in any way the exclusive copyright you hold on your own works. However, the idea of the atlas facsimile reproduction by itself as well as the selection resp. compilation of maps of the presented elements (single or complete) cann be done by everyone and is not coyprightable.

A Reference on this Internet document source is not necessary, even not in the maps itself. For reasons of time, momentarily, most maps are publicized only as raw file resp. merely with a simple color correction. However, the publication is complete, The present raw scans are, without exception, uncompressed TIFF files, with a prepress suitable resolution of 300 dpi, containing all the original information. (scanner model: Mustek A3 1200 S [De­tails]).

For the prepress preparation (high color depth and a suitable color space), the free, platform independent available raster graphics editor Kri­ta, as well as the also free, platform independent graphical oriented DTP software Scribus are very advisable.

There is no news notification possibility (on added documents and on other updates) via e-mail news­letters, but there is a RSS news ticker. RSS newstickers are an excellent alternative to e-mail dis­tri­bu­tion lists, also under political aspects. They enable readers to be informed actively, without risking to miss news due to e-mail censorship: Website owners report again and again that e-mail newsletters on new contributions or appeals can sometimes not be sent or received. Because of the fact, that e-mail providers consider the senders politically as not conform enough.

By virtue of many suggestions, which reached us since the appearance of our „Atlas für die Bayerischen Mittelschulen“ [Atlas for the Bavarian Intermediate Schools], we have decided to manufacture a further edition in the desired considerable smaller format of 34 cm height and 22 cm width and to market it under the title “LORECK und WINTER, Atlas für Höhere Lehranstalten” Ausgabe B” [“LORECK and WINTER”, Atlas for Higher Educational Institutions, Edition B”]

In this revamped work the content has been extended almost twice as much. Moreover, especially the maps of the European countries haven been reshaped in such a way, that they further intertwine.

The scales of the maps are brought into accord among themselves and all maps are now laid so, that a turn of the atlas is no longer necessary at use.

The extensions of the atlas partly consist of the special depiction of geographic important and interesting territories, part in detailed description of the geological, climatic and economic conditions; namely the geological conditions also of the single European countries are depicted on special [little] maps.

A special diligence is devoted to the depiction of the Germanity, by not only the foreign languages in the German Reich and the German colonies in Europe are recorded, but also the settlements of the Germans in South America, Australia and South Africa etc. are recorded on own [little] maps.

The “comparison maps” might awaken the greatest interest, these are maps on which non-European ratios are assigned on European countries.

For those interested parties, who attach importance to large map images, it is pointed out, that our atlas in the format 39 ½ x 26 cm we had so far, which we extended from 74 pages to 126 pages, and for which the previously mentioned improvements also hold, is to be continued under the title “LO­RECK und WIN­TER, At­las für Hö­he­re Lehr­an­stal­ten, Aus­ga­be A” and will be placed on the market at a price of Mk. 7.-.

Also, as before, this edition can be obtained separately in four parts.

With the thanks, which we want to express at this point to the many friends of our company, for their valuable suggestions regarding the aformentioned reworks and which is, in particular, dedicated to the Ver­lags­buch­hand­lung Chr. Herm. This map shows beautifully, why our national anthem states: “[...] Von der Maas bis an die Memel, Von der Etsch bis an den Belt [...]” resp. in English “[...] From the Meuse to the Memel, From the Adige to the Belt [...]”. This simply is the ancestral Heimat of our people .
